The department has importent role in the regional centre concerning :

• Real time access to the operational hydro-meteorological information via the local network to all other departments in the regional centre


• Reliable and continuous storage of the operational and historical hydro-meteorological information


• Continuous monitoring and in time correction of the information flow coming from the hydrological and meteorological observatories, climatological stations and rain gauges.


• Monitoring of the state and analysis of the results from 18 automatic hydrological stations (projects Medhycos and Phare, Phare1) and 48 meteorological at Chepelare and Haskovo, but also their maintenance.


• Maintenance and development of the regional centre information system : database, software for data transfer via LAN and Internet, for monitoring, storage and visualisation of hydro-meteorological data.
  
• Implementation and adaptation of hydrological diagnosys and forecasting models and meteorological numerical model for the screen level of the atmosphere.
