The regions suffering from floods on Turkish territory, and Odrin/Edirne beforehand are very closed to the border and cannot gather in time information only on Turkish territory.
Knowing that floods form in the mountainous regions of Maritza river basin and its tributaries, it becomes clear that improvement in measures for flood prevention and diminishing of flood hazardous effects could be achieved only through co-operation and use of common information sources. Multiplication of this will be reached on Bulgarian territories along the lower streams of Arda and Maritza rivers, which also suffer often and destructive floods. Creating an effective system of measures for flood warning and flood prevention will increase stability in the cross-border regions and improve investment climate there.
In the basins of Marits, Arda and Tundja rivers there are 71 hydrological stations;
5 of them - automatic, with telemetric data trasfer
In Turkey the stations on Maritsa and Tundja are: Maritsa-Odrin, Kirishane - on Maritsa after the outflow of Arda and Tundja;
Suakadja - on Tundja near the Bulgarian border, and on the outflow of Byala River (Erithropotamos)in Maritsa.
In the framework of this project two new automatic hydrological stations and one compact meteorological station will be installed
on river Byala and on Maritsa at Parvomay.
Some examples from the work of the teams, and photos from bsome hydrological stations. More information
